• Mr. Charles O. Farrington, along with his brother Edward P. Farrington, and the Deacon John Holyoke founded the Brewer Savings Bank in 1869 …

• Served in the Maine Legislature from 1863 to 1867

• Took over the family ship-building business and in 40 years built about 40 ships. At the time he was one of the best known of American shipbuilders.

• Also engaged in the lumber like his brother.

• He aided liberally ln erecting churches io Brewer and neighboring towns, and in endowing the theological seminary in Bangor,

• In 1890, A stained glass window which bears the incription " In Memory of Deacon John HOLYOKE" was given to the First Congregational Church by Seth C. and Margaret HOLYOKE Dyer of Portland, ME. Margaret HOLYOKE Dyer is John's sister.
