Notes for John Edward HOLYOKE
• In 1863 and again in 1865 John was elected to the Maine legislature representing Brewer and Orrington.
• In 1869 when the Brewer Savings Bank was organized and John HOLYOKE was it's first President, and he served with the bank for about 14 years. Although, some records incorrectly states that William Burr was the first President.
• Some references also mistakenly identified this John as the the son of the original John HOLYOKE, the co-founder of Brewer. In fact this John is the great grandson.
• There are records that record a John E. HOLYOKE as residing in Brewer, ME from 1882 through 1892 with his occupation in lumber, and spar and knees dealer. Whether this is the same John I’m not sure.
