• Some records lists his date of death as “26 Oct 1889”
• The first of the New Brunswick, Canada line of HOLYOKEs.
• Richard considered himself a “Loyalist” and moved to Canada from Maine, abt 1830.
• He purchased property in the Parish of Kingsclear, near Long’s Creek, from Mary O’Dell when he was about 30 years old (November, 1831).
• He was a member of the York County Militia, and was generally known as “the Major.”
• In the 1851 Census for East Canada, Richard’s occupation is listed as a farmer.
• If searched, one can find the Canadian Holyoke families listed as Native Americans. This is not exactly true - they were considered Native Canadian, a term generally used in the mid-1800’s to indicate they were born in Canada. Interestingly, Richard is listed as such, even though he was born in Maine.
