• He graduated Phillips Academy, in Andover, and in 1804, he studied with Dr. Waterhouse, at the famous Longfellow Mansion at Cambridge, and attended the course of lectures at the Harvard Medical School in 1806 and 1807.
• His first marriage in 1809 was to his 1st cousin (Ruth) … Andrew’s father also married his 1st cousin.
• He commenced the practice of his profession in Peabody in 1811.
• He was admitted to the Massachusetts Medical Society in 1811, and was for many years president of the Essex South District Medical Society.
• He was a distinguished botanist.
• He was the first president of the Essex County Natural History Society in 1836, which, with the Essex Historical Society of 1821, formed the Essex Institute of 1848.
• He was active in the temperance cause.
