Notes for George Huntinton PECK , Jr.
• A real estate broker, developer and millionaire.

• Began his career as a railroad conductor and is credited with driving the first Southern Pacific train into San Pedro, CA.

• He was convinced the need for harbor facilities, he bought land along the seashore, which is now called San Pedro.

• In 1890, established the first bank in San Pedro.

• Acquired virtually all of San Pedro and to the north a
subdivision called El Porto, originally called "Peck's Beach.” Peck’s Beach would be later be annexed by Manhattan Beach.

• Built Peck's Pier in Manhattan Beach.

• His larger real estate transactions were the sale of properties for the Standard Oil (now Chevron) refinery at what would become the city of El Segundo, and also the US Army's Fort MacArthur at San Pedro.

• In 1940, he left an estate valued at $5,000,000 to a trust for his chronically ill children, and the remaining value defaulting to the city upon their deaths.

• There are streets in San Pedro and Manhattan Beach that bear his name.
