• Class of 1958 of the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT.
• Serves with distinction at duty stations in California, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, Washington, as well as here in Wilmington where he served as the Captain of the Port (USCG Sector, North Carolina, Atlantic Area).
• Ed was equally proud of his volunteer commitments, including:
- An advocate for the annulment tribunal of the Diocese of Raleigh
- Ombudsman for the New Hanover County Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee, alternate from New Hanover County of the North Carolina Senior Tar Heel Legislature
- Committee member of the Cape Fear Elder Abuse Prevention Network
- Library volunteer St. Mary School
- Parish council member, consultant at St. Thomas School Eucharistic Minister

• Graduated from Williams Memorial Institute, New London, CT in 1954, earned her RN from St Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Hartford, CT in 1957, and her BSN from California State University at Fullerton in 1988.
• A Coast Guard spouse, served alongside her husband at duty stations in California, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington for over 30 years.
• Worked with the American Red Cross in a number of states
• Served as a public health nurse in Massachusetts and ran the NICU at the then Bethesda Navy National Medical Center in Maryland.
• Her second calling was in home health, working for the New Hanover Home Health Department, NHRMC Home Health and WellCare Home Health agencies for 22 years.
• Volunteered with the Coast Guard Officers wives club, her beloved St. Mary Parish as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Ladies Guild, one of the first volunteers at the Titleston Medical Clinic, and most importantly, representing the citizens of New Hanover County as a member of NC Senior Tar Heel Committee
• Was a member of a group of delegates advocating for seniors and making recommendations to the North Carolina General Assembly on issues affecting older adults.
