Notes for William Edward (Spouse 1)
• In June 1846, William was a member of the first class graduated from Knox College and gave its first Knox Commencement Address.
• After graduating Knox College, he became a pastor of the Farmington Congregational Church in Knox, IL
• It has been reported that William also ran an underground railroad (like his great-uncle, John Jr., in Brewer, Maine).
• A trustee of Knox College until death in 1903.
• In 1870 there is a record of a William E HOLYOKE residing in Chicago, IL.
• In 1870 there appears to be some relationship with a Charles S. HOLYOKE and Alexander HOLYOKE. Not sure if they’re brothers, father & sons or what.
• In the 1880 Census, I found a relationship between a Will HOLYOKE and a Henrietta HOLYOKE, which I suspect are husband and wife. However, I am not sure if this Will is the same as William E. HOLYOKE..
• in 1897, he received an Honorary Degree from Knox College.
