Anecdotal submission by Jack Sherman:
• Name has also been recorded as “Hirsh Schermann” … in 1913 his name was changed at Ellis Island. He was told Hirsh Schermann sounded too ethnic so they suggested Harry Sherman and he went with it.
• Departed home at the age of 17 and landed in NYC on 26 December 1913 by way of Belgium on the Red Star line.
• Worked in the leather business and was sent from NYC to Maine to open a factory to make Leather Jackets for the Army Air Corps in WWII.
