• Some records spell his first name as “Phinehas”
• He learned surveying from an uncle in Rhode Island and later became a civil engineer. He planned and constructed the water works from Lynde Brook in Leicester to Worcester. He was responsible for advancing the sewer system in worcester where he was also water commisioner from 1863-1867, and city engineer from 1867-1872. He was involved in the construction and/or reporting on water and sewer systems throughout New England.
• He was member of the Worcester City Council and was elected mayor for the year 1865.
• He began manufacturing water meters and formed Union Water Meter Company where he remained president until his death in 1894.
