Notes for John STOCKTON
• John’s ancestors were blacksmiths in Whitchurch.
• Obtained his B.A degree at Oxford on March 8, 1573/4
• Rector of Alcester in 1578, a plaque with his name exists at the site.
• Rector of Kimcote, which was 3.5 miles northeast from Lutterworth in 1595 … note: there are a number of spelling for Kimcote – Kinholt, Kinkolt, Kinholy, and even Kinholdt. The English language at that time was not standarized, so the various spellings are based on phonetics.
• John started the first existing register, Alcester Parish Register
