Notes for Rev. Elizur HOLYOKE
• Graduated from Harvard College in 1750 with a A.M (Masters of Arts),
• 1757 - 1758 was the Harvard College Librarian
• in 1746/47, he wrote his name on the flyleaf in Hebrew: Elizur followed by qodesh ("holy") + alah ("oak")
• In 1754, he was invited to be the minister of church at Purpoodock, by a majority of one vote … to which he did not accept. This was because of the division in its society … a ling time feud within the Parish, a portion were sturdy Presbyertains from Scotland, while the others were Congregationalists,
• Was ordained on 31 Jan 1759 at the church of Boxford, where he remained until his death … served as minister of the First Church and Parish (Congregational Church) in Boxford for almost 50 years (till 1797).
• By all appearance, Elizur and his children are the end of the Sammuel and Elizabeth (Brigham) Holyoke paternal lineage
